Greetings from our Board President

Everyone is entitled to live and die with dignity and comfort surrounded by loved ones, and assisted by compassionate and caring persons of their choice”

This Vision Statement became very clear to me as I sat around the table at my first board meeting in March 2011. I was surrounded by a group of people dedicated to Hospice Huntsville and its programs in the community. These board members were dedicated to the building of a residential hospice in Huntsville. In January 2012, our dream and vision was complete as we opened Algonquin Grace, our 5 bed residential hospice.

I am honoured to begin my next three year term on the board as President of Hospice Huntsville. I am very passionate about Hospice Huntsville and its continued commitment to our community.

To Bev Lashbrook our Executive Director thank you, to our dedicated administrative staff, thank you, to our nursing staff, thank you, and to our volunteers who provided 13,198 volunteer hours, thank you. Keeping Algonquin Grace open and inviting with coffee always on and fresh cookies AMAZING, did I mention the fresh cookies!

Since January 2012 we have served 439 residents. Our building is paid for, we are meeting our yearly financial targets.  Fifty percent (50%) comes from our Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) and the balance (50%) comes from dedicated people like you who continue to donate through our signature events, third party fundraising efforts, in memoriam’s and planned giving initiatives.

This year Gwynne’s Gazebo was donated by her family with the ribbon cutting in July. This is a wonderful addition to our facility, as many can now enjoy some fresh air, steps away from our building.

How can YOU help…

1 – Join the 500 Club, our goal is to have 500 people committing $500 per year to help cover our operational costs. Host a 500 Club party, invite your friends.

2 – If you would like us to come and share our vision with your community group or church group please feel free to contact us.

3 – Ask about our Planned Giving program, Gifts (stocks/mutual funds) in-kind, Will’s etc.

4 – Room naming opportunities still exist for those who wish to donate to Algonquin Grace.

5 – Tell your friends about us, help spread our Vision for the community.

End of life care in our community consists of Algonquin Grace Residential Hospice, Visiting Volunteers, Grief Support and Bereavement programs, all this would not be possible without the dedication to Hospice Huntsville by YOU.

Thank you to the community for allowing us to serve you and thank you for your ongoing support.
