Greetings from our Board President

“Everyone is entitled to live and die with dignity and comfort surrounded by loved ones, and assisted by compassionate and caring persons of their choice”

This Vision Statement became very clear to me as I sat around the table at my first board meeting in March 2011. I was surrounded by a group of people dedicated to Hospice Huntsville and its programs in the community. These board members were focused on building a residential Hospice in Huntsville.
January 2012, our dream and vision was complete as we opened Algonquin Grace, our five bed residential Hospice.
I am honored to have served this past year as President of Hospice Huntsville. I am very passionate about Hospice Huntsville and its continued commitment to our community.
To Rebecca Ellerson our Executive Director thank you, to our dedicated administrative staff, thank you, to our Nursing staff, thank you, and to our volunteers, THANK YOU !!!!
Since January 2012 we have served over 1,000 residents. Our building is paid for, we are meeting our yearly financial targets: 40% comes from government funding and the balance (60%) comes from dedicated people like you who continue to donate through our signature events, third party fundraising efforts, in memoriam’s and planned giving initiatives.

How can YOU help…
1 – Join the 500 Club, our goal is to have 500 people committing $500 per year to help cover our operational costs
2 – Host a 500 Club Virtual Party.  Invite your friends
3 – If you would like us to come and share our vision with your community group, church group or service club please feel free to contact us.
4 – Ask about our Planned Giving program, Gifts (stocks/mutual funds) In Kind, Will’s etc.
5 – Room naming opportunities still exist for those who wish to donate to Hospice Huntsville
6 – Tell your friends about us, help spread our vision for the community

End of life care in our community consists of Algonquin Grace Residential Hospice, Visiting Volunteer, Grief Support and Bereavement programs, all this would not be possible without the dedication to Hospice Huntsville by YOU.

Thank you to all for your ongoing support.

Respectfully,
Gordon Schakelaar
Board President
