The Role of the Visiting Volunteer
Hospice Huntsville Visiting Volunteer Program
Hospice Huntsville offers trained visiting volunteers who are able to provide 24 hour end-of-life vigil in private homes, hospital, long-term care facilities or in our residential hospice, Algonquin Grace. Our Visiting Volunteers provide non-medical care and support such as:
- Companionship, reading aloud, listening
- Simple comfort measures, back rubs, position changes, transfers
- Bedside vigilance while family members/caregivers rest
- Respite for caregivers to take a break away from home
- Bereavement support
Caregiver Respite
Visiting volunteers can stay with your loved one while you, as a caregiver, take a much needed break to what you have to- attend an appointment, hair cut, go out for dinner, attend your child/grandchild’s children’s concert or just to have a bubble bath.
Overnight Respite
Hospice volunteers can sit overnight with your loved one so you can get a good night’s sleep to help avoid getting rundown.
